Mindfulness

Mindfulness refers to the ability that we have of being in the here and now, completely aware of everything we are experiencing both inside ourselves and around us. We develop this attitude by deliberately choosing to focus our to the things that we usually do not pay attention to.

Going through a formal training in mindfulness allows you to learn how to broaden your attentional focus – you will be able to gain a much better control over your attention processes and understand what keeps it active, what drives it away and what it difficult for you to be as attentive as you would like to be. An overall improvement in attention is one of the first benefits you will have with this training: being more aware, more focused and feeling a better grip on your everyday tasks.

A mindfulness training at Oficina de Psicologia activates your brain cortical area allowing you to better control the focus of your attention and thus increasing concentration. On the long term, mindfulness practice will foster the development of brain areas responsible for the integration of emotion and thought, as well as for self-awareness. Stop reacting automatically

After a mindfulness training you will have a choice to stop reacting automatically and you will be better at self-regulating any physical or psychological discomfort. Training how to focus your attention and being aware of how it tends to wander is a first step to develop a distanced and objective relationship with negative thoughts that may invade you from time to time.
